15 Great Baseball Walkup Songs

Baseballsongs

The crack of the bat, the scent of hot buttered popcorn, and, hey, is that Journey’s Steve Perry trying to get a stadium sing-along started? (He’s a crazy Giants fan.) This week, we’re celebrating that grand old American game, baseball.

Besides the home runs and stolen bases, one of the great things about modern baseball are the heart-pounding snippets of music blasted in-between plays. Whether it’s metal, country, hip-hop, or a player’s wife’s single (yes, we’re talking to you, Ben Zobrist), today’s pro-baseball players get to show off their individuality by choosing the walkup songs played aloud as they get up to bat or stroll onto the pitcher’s mound.

So whether you’re getting ready to watch the World Series with your bros, or just the weekly game with your kids, here are 15 great baseball walkup songs to get you in that relaxed, beer-sipping, and peanut-crunching mood. Make a MyMusicCloud playlist and stream it through your smart TV during the 7th inning stretch, if you like.

The Sound of the Olympics: From Opening Ceremony Music to Athletes’ Favorite Bands

Get ready for an ear-tastic explosion of music Friday when the 2012 Summer Olympics kick off in London and are broadcast around the world. Olympic mix-masters say they’ve compiled 2,012 songs to play over the two-week course of the Games. Eighty-six of those will just be for the splashy opening ceremony, a mashup of iconic British songs from the Sex Pistols to Adele called “A Symphony of British Music” played against an English countryside backdrop.

MyMusicCloud invites you to get in on the fun by earmarking your favorite songs and making your own Olympic music power playlist. Download them from our music store (search 11 million songs) or upload your own recordings to our cloud-based music storage and delivery system from your private collection.

Wondering where to start? How about some of the bands the Olympic athletes are listening to?

U.S. women’s soccer star Hope Solo tells Self magazine her favorite pump-up song is “Ragged Mile” by the John Butler Trio. Sixteen-time U.S. swimming medalist Michael Phelps says he gets pumped to Afrojack, Avicii, and Skrillex. His teammate Ryan Lochte prefers Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. U.S. teen gymnasts McKayla Maroney and Jordyn Wieber adore Justin Bieber, while Gabby Douglas rocks out to Beyoncé and Rihanna. And if soccer sensation Neymar De Silva scores a goal for Brazil, expect to hear singer Michel Telo’s “Ai Se Eu Te Pego!” fill the stadium. (It translates into “Oh, If I Catch You!” in English.)

As we mentioned earlier this month, official Olympics theme songs have also been recorded by Muse, Elton John vs. Pnau, Delphic, electronic gurus the Chemical Brothers, and rapper Dizzee Rascal. At the Games themselves, the Scissor Sisters and Rizzle Kicks will play surprise gigs for spectators, and Blur, New Order and The Specials will rock out at the closing ceremony on August 12. So show your national pride and rock out with the jocks this Olympics season!
