Viral Video Alert: Bet You Can’t Name These 60 Songs

Think you know your ’90s hit songs? We’ll see about that. In our Viral Video Alert choice for April, two Australian singer-comedians perform 60 songs from the ’80s and ’90s in six minutes with just an acoustic guitar.

How many can you correctly name?

Okay, okay. Here are some hints: Starting off with the famous chords from Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Al Newstead and Anna O’Bryan poke fun at ’90s megahits from groups like TLC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alanis Morrissette, Blur, and even, brace yourselves, Ace of Bass, M.C. Hammer and, yikes, Sophie B. Hawkins. (Why, it’s almost as cool as jamming with Donna, Kelly, David and Steve back in 90210‘s famous Peach Pit After Dark.)

So test yourself and then check out the full list of song titles and their singers after the video. We hope these yesteryear hits evoke some happy flannel and spandex memories for you, like they did for us, and if you like what you hear, you can always upload your favorite CDs, mp3s and more songs to our MyMusicCloud store-and-play service for free.

Your Spring Music Festival 2014 Guide

Spring may still feel like a cruel joke to many frozen Northeasterners (it’s coming, we promise!), but shorts and sandal weather has definitely arrived around the rest of the U.S. How do we know? There were plenty of pictures of the bikini’ed dance army that invaded Miami, Fla. last weekend for the annual Ultra Music Festival 2014 party.

Top EDM acts like Armin van Burren, Krewella, Skrillex (and his side-project Jack U), Rapper Waka Flocka Flame and Dutch superstar Hardwell lit up Bayfront Park with LED lights and mind-scrambling beats. Other highlights were New York duo The Chainsmokers, whose LOL single “#Selfie” is burning up the charts; Tiesto and Icona Pop, who performed their single “Let’s Go”; rapper M.I.A.; and deadmau5, who replaced a sick Avicii at the last-second and teasingly mixed the percussive beats of Martin Garrix’s “Animals” with the schoolyard ditty “Old MacDonald Had A Farm.”

You say strobelights and giant mouse-heads aren’t your thing? Not to worry. There are plenty of other music festivals – from the Southern-kissed jazz of Branford Marsalis and Robert Cray at this weekend’s Savannah Music Festival to the heartland rock of Jason Aldean and the Florida Georgia Line at California’s Stagecoach Country Music Fest.

This weekend, the alternative sounds of Coachella, starring Outkast, Muse, Beck, Arcade Fire, Lorde, and many more, kicks off in Indio, Calif. The 2-weekend blowout will also be streamed live on YouTube and AXS TV.Bottom of Form

Funny Misheard Lyrics Submitted by MyMusicCloud Fans

Last week, we put the call out to music fans to send us your funny misheard song lyrics, and you didn’t let us down. In honor of April Fool’s Day this Tuesday, we’ve printed the funniest ones below. Here goes …

Steven64 posted: “What’s that old Prince song from the 1970s? I always thought he was saying I wanna turn you on, turn you out, all night long, make you shout, Led Zeppelin! Yeah. Never could understand why he did that. Just thought he was a big Robert Plant fan. Turns out that’s not the words.”

MyMusicCloud says: Right on, Steven64. The Prince song you were trying to remember is called: “I Wanna Be Your Lover.” And the actual lyrics are: “I wanna turn you on, turn you out, all night long, make you shout, Oh, lover! Yeah.”

ashleycat posted:  “My little brother was obsessed with Mac ‘n Cheese and when Def Leppard sang that song ‘Photograph,’ he was like, ‘Bowl of Kraft, I don’t want your bowl of Kraft!!!’ Then he asked me, ‘Why do they hate Mac ‘n Cheese so much??’ LOLZ.”

MyMusicCloud says: Good one, ashleycat! Wonder what Def Leppard would say to that?

Rocco posted:  “I thought that Cee Lo Green was singing: ‘And though Hussein’s in my church, I still wish him the best…’ in his F-You song.”

MyMusicCloud says: Interesting. Do you hear Hussein in a lot of song lyrics? JK. In case you’re curious, the real lyrics to that verse are: ‘And though there’s pain in my chest, I still wish

you the best…’

Denise Kievit posted:  “Not sure if this is politically correct but, here goes, ‘Cruise’ by Florida Georgia Line. The line is, “When I first saw her had a bikini top on her.” What I heard was…”When I first saw her, had a king size b—r.” I asked my husband and he had to look it up to make sure I wasn’t correct.”

MyMusicCloud says: Whoa, Denise! We had to “dash out” the PG-13 word you heard for younger readers but, between you and us, that’s hilarious!

Joe Dungan posted quite a few Elton John lyrics, inspired by our video of actors Katherine Heigl and James Marsden singing “Bennie & the Jets” wrong. (Watch it here.) Here are a couple of them:

“In the spirit of your ‘Bennie & the Jets” citation, I’d like to offer up a few other Elton John songs. My mishearings are first, followed by the real lyrics in parentheses:

“Love Lies Bleeding”
Like all the burning poo-poo fire
That went out last June
(Like all the burning hoops of fire
That you and I passed through)

Elton John is so odd and open to misinterpretation, that in this instance, the mishearing is more normal than the actual lyric:
“Philadelphia Freedom”
Give me a peace of mind my daddy never had
(Gave me a piece of mama daddy never had)

MyMusicCloud says: Wow, thanks for the music anthology, Joe!

Randy Sellers posted:  “Heard this one recently. Travolta and OL John, not sure of the title myself, but think it’s “You’re the one that I want.” Misheard is, I’ve got shoes, they’re made of plywood.”

MyMusicCloud says: Fantastic, Randy! Wonder how John walks in those plywood shoes. You’re right, the song is called, “You’re the One That I Want,” famous from the 1978 Grease Movie Soundtrack.  The real lyrics are: I’ve got chills, They’re multiplying, And I’m losing controoool.”

Thanks to everyone who contributed your misheard song lyrics! Read the original post, “Send Us Your Funniest Misheard Song Lyrics for 2014 here.” And never mess up the lyrics to a song again by clicking our “Lyrics” button in the MyMusicCloud app, where you can store and play your music anytime anywhere, regardless of brand.

In honor of Randy Sellers, enjoy the classic Grease movie video below.

Send Us Your Funny Misheard Song Lyrics for 2014

Did you know that in Pearl Jam’s grunge song, “Daughter,” Eddie Vedder’s really singing, Don’t call me daughter, Not fit to, and not, Don’t call me daughter, Geppetto ? Or that AC/DC’s song really goes, Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap? And not Dirty Jeans, Dungarees!?

If you’ve ever goofed up the words to songs like those, we at MyMusicCloud salute you. April Fool’s Day is just over a week away, and to celebrate, we’re asking readers like you to submit another round of Funny Misheard Lyrics.

In our last roundup, listener Lisa heard Rihanna sing, ’Cause I may be fat, but I’m perfectly good at it… when in fact, the words to “S&M” are:  ‘Cause I may be bad, but I’m perfectly good at it…

Amanda was sure that Fun. was singing, Some nights I stay up cussin’ in my bathtub, when they were really singing, Some nights I stay up cashing in my bad luck in “Some Nights.”

And Stephanie swore that: “For ‘Benny & The Jets,’ I always thought it was (and continue to sing), ‘She’s got electric boobs! Down to her shoes, you know I heard and I’m about to say-eee-oh-oh.’ ” (Sorry, Stephanie, but the words to Elton John’s song are actually: She’s got electric boots, a mohair suit, you know I read it in a magaaazine.)

With MyMusicCloud, you never have to sing the wrong song lyrics again. Just hit the Lyrics button on our music storage and play site and it instantly shows you the correct words. Unless, like Katherine Heigl and James Marsden in the romantic comedy, 27 Dresses, you actually enjoy singing the wrong lyrics loudly and off-key. In that case, rock on! And post your silly made-up lyrics below. We’ll publish the funniest ones next week.

5 Cool Speakers, Headphones & More Music Gadgets from CES 2014

Rapper 50 Cent talked up his new line of Star Wars-themed SMS Audio headphones and Nick Cannon (“America’s Got Talent”) declared, “DJs are the new rock stars,” at this week’s packed Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Each January, celebrities and electronics company pitchmen fly to CES to give the press a peek at the newest TVs, sound systems and gadgets developed for the upcoming year. Below, we’ve rounded up 5 of the coolest new headphones, smart TV and music accessories coming out in 2014 …

Android TVs: Phillips is one of several brands, including Roku and HiSense (with its VIDAA series), to produce smart TVs running the Android OS. With Android, Philips hopes to bring many of the apps available on Google Play, like MyMusicCloud’s music delivery service, to its future Ambilight Smart TVs as early as spring 2014 in Europe. HiSense is aiming for March.

50 Cent Gives Props to Star Wars:  You may not have guessed it but “I’ve been a fan of Star Wars since I was a kid,” 50 Cent said. Partnering with Lucasfilms, he and his SMS Audio on-ear STREET by 50 headphones will soon bear Stormtrooper, Rebel Alliance, Boba Fett and Imperial limited edition logos, plus enhanced bass and custom 40 mm drivers  (about $199.95 each this Spring). He also showed off his brightly colored STREET by 50 Sports sets (waterproof, wired or wireless and sweat resistant, starting at $79.95).

Invisible Speakers:  Speaking of sci-fi, like something out of Star Trek, ClearView showed off its Clio “invisible” wireless speakers, which use a vibrating 1 millimeter-thin vertical sheet of acrylic glass to create sound so you can actually see through them.  All the electronics, a 2 inch woofer and stereo dipole speakers,  are in the base,

In-“fall”- ible Earbuds:  “Yurbuds” says its Inspire earbuds are “guaranteed” to stay in your ears, no matter what you’re doing. Sound too good to be true? Well, it credits its intuitive TwistLock system for this breakthrough, and the new wireless versions do look kind of like screws. These Bluetooth-enabled earbuds also promise six hours of battery life and are sweat-resistant.

Ultimate Fighting Headphones? Monster Shows Off UFC star Anthony Pettis & Nick Cannon: Monster introduced several new headphones including DNA Pro over-ear styles, $449.95 (about £274.18, AU$501.95), and Ultimate Fighting Championship-sponsored, over-ear cans called Octagon, which will run you about $280 (about £170.62, AU$312.36). Both are available later this year. Nick Cannon also DJed at Monster’s Ncredible party Tuesday night.
