MyMusicCloud is expanding its song catalog and services as part of a new deal that was announced this week. Triplay, the parent company of our free store-and-play service, has acquired eMusic, the music retail and download site.

It’s an exciting marriage of wireless technology and music discovery.

“We are thrilled to join forces to offer all our users the wide variety of music they love in a comprehensive, next-generation platform, complete with the features they want and need,” said Tamir Koch, founder and CEO of TriPlay.

The MyMusicCloud apps already empower music lovers to tote and listen to their collections on nearly any smart device (smart phones, computers, tablets, and Samsung smart TVs) regardless of brand (Apple, Android, Windows etc.)

Soon, we’ll offer our millions of active, eclectic and music-savvy users songs from eMusic’s retail store too. Together, that equals a combined catalog of more than 25 million songs from every genre. In return, eMusic users will also have access to their music collections, both online and offline, on any device, anywhere in the world.

To find out when these changes take effect, keep checking back here for further announcements.

“In the coming months, our users will begin to see significant enhancements as we introduce the complete music service they want, accessible anywhere, anytime and on any device,” Koch said.

3 iTunes Headaches MyMusicCloud Solves

Promotional artwork

This week, Apple unveiled a bunch of new goodies including the iPhone 6s, Siri-responsive Apple TV boxes, and bigger, snazzier iPads. But for those of us still using iTunes, the event was something of a letdown. Can’t we share our music across all our devices, even if they’re not Apple-approved? Why do our fave bootlegged songs have to be replaced? There really is an alternative. Did you know that free music app MyMusicCloud

Unites your music across all your devices regardless of brand or operating system? Got music on an iPhone and an Android tablet? Or some albums on an old PC laptop and others on a new MacBook? No problem. Our free music app seamlessly stores, plays, and pauses your music collection across all your gadgets. It’s available for computers, smartphones, and tablets powered by Apple, Android and Windows. Plus, you can stream all your music and playlists right now through your Samsung smart TV with our pre-loaded TV app or with the Chromecast laptop dongle.

Lets you ditch those “Sync” app workarounds? Using Android or Windows devices in addition to your Apple favorites? You don’t need to pay for workaround apps like iSyncr for iTunes for Android or Sync iTunes to Android (Pro) to play your music. MyMusicCloud plays nice with all your devices.

Keeps your original imported songs unchanged? Enjoy your live concert recordings, EDM remixes, and European imports without substitutions. MyMusicCloud will never “match and replace” your songs with those from a music label or store. It’s your music to upload and enjoy.

Listen to your music without limitations by downloading the free MyMusicCloud app now. (It automatically imports your iTunes collection.) Learn more tips and tricks in our Help and How-To archives.

Help: 5 Cool MyMusicCloud Tips & Shortcuts

music app lyrics finder

If you’ve just downloaded MyMusicCloud, you may not have discovered all the cool things our free music app can do. Our philosophy has always been that  you should be free to listen to your music on any device, regardless of iOs, Android or Windows operating system. But did you know you can also …

Get a Smart Playlist

Whenever you click on a song, album or artist, you can instantly receive a playlist of similar singers and songs from your collection by clicking the blue triangle and “Create Smart Playlist.” Don’t like some of the songs there? On your phone, simply swipe left on the title and it’s gone, baby, gone.

Listen without Wifi

When wifi fails, you can keep the party going by playing songs from your library. Just make sure they’re downloaded to your computer, smartphone, tablet or Samsung smart TV by finding and clicking the blue triangle. A blue arrow on our mobile app indicates the song has already been downloaded. (More here.)

Shuffle Your Songs

You can now shuffle all the songs in your listening “Q.” On the website dashboard, click the Q on the lower-right corner of your screen and select “Shuffle” at the top of the song list. On the mobile app, go to the Q then tap the shuffle icon on the lower-left corner of your mobile screen.

See Song Lyrics

Instantly see all the ridiculous things Redfoo and Rihanna are singing with our Lyrics feature (photo above). The Lyrics button is located at the top of the screen for the song you’re listening to.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts

If you love hitting “Control + any key” on your keyboard to get things done, you’ll dig our keyboard shortcuts. Go to the MyMusicCloud website and hit “Shift + ?” to see a full list of time-saving keys. For future reference, they are: Spacebar = Play / Pause, Arrow Up = Volume Up, Arrow Down = Volume Down, Arrow Left = Previous Song, Arrow Right = Next Song, q = Open / Close “Q”, s = Shuffle, p = New Playlist. (Sorry, not available on smartphones.)

You can also import your music from Dropbox and Google, and play your collection on most Samsung smart TVs and Samsung Neo & Gear smart watches. For more tips and step-by-step instructions, visit our Help & How-To section at the right.

DIY: How to Improve Your TV’s Picture and Sound

When shopping for TVs, most of us set a budget and choose the biggest and best-looking screen in the store’s flashy TV department, regardless of how large or small our living space is. Sound about right? But once plugged in at home, that glossy high-definition TV often doesn’t look or sound as great as it did in the store. What gives? Never fear. With a few simple furniture moves and some easy math, your HD or Smart TV can provide a home-theater-like experience. Try these free and easy DIY tips to improve your TV picture and sound quality right now.

1. Don’t mount your flat-screen TV over the fireplace like a painting. That’s too high for comfortable viewing. Your TV should be on or near eye level so your eyes are perpendicular to the screen, website Rtings.com advises.

2. Don’t sit too close to or too far from your TV. Sitting too near the TV doesn’t make you, your dog, or your kids nearsighted, a new study that tracked the vision of thousands of children over 20 years confirms. But it may dull your movie experience by causing you to see the pixels in the picture of the new 1080 hp resolution screens. By sitting further away, TV picture density increases, producing a smoother, more realistic image. For the ideal home cinematic experience, the Society of Motion Picture Theater Engineers and THX say the ideal viewing angle from your couch is 30 degrees.

3. That’s great, but how far should my couch be from my TV? Wondering what 30 degrees looks like? Basically, it’s about 1.6 times the diagonal measurement of your television. So if you have a 55″ television, multiply that by 1.6, which gives you 88 inches or 7 feet and 4 inches. When placing the furniture, be sure to measure from where your eyes are, not the front or back of the couch. Too much math? Use this handy calculator to tell you exactly how near or far to sit: http://myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html

4. Calibrate your TV picture. Brightness, Contrast, Overscan and Movie vs. Vivid TV settings can make a big difference in how rich your favorite movies and TV shows look at home. To set these, simply download and burn the *free* AVS HD 709 Calibration disc files. (Lifehacker.com walks you through the process here.) Or if you or your kids are a little more tech-y, connect your PC to your TV via HDMI or DVI, and use the built-in Windows display calibration utility.

5. What about surround sound? Audio snobs make a big deal out of surround sound and home theater systems. But it’s not that complicated. Basically, a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound setup uses five or seven main speakers, plus a sub woofer for low-bass tones. These speakers should be set up as close to ear-level as possible with at least 3 feet between each. But for small rooms or apartments, you may just want to go with a sound bar below the TV and a sub woofer, Samsung TVs advises.

6. Use canvas art, books and rugs to improve your movie and music sound. Wood and tile floors are all the rage, but they make the sound from your TV bounce and echo like crazy. A sofa helps absorb these sounds but rugs, shelves filled with books and simple painted canvases (without glass frames) can too. Remember you can also enjoy your music on many of today’s Smart TVs. Samsung Smart TVs have the MyMusicCloud app built right in, so you can play, mix and search your entire music library right from your couch. Find out more about How to Activate MyMusicCloud here. If you just bought a Smart TV, congratulations! With a few simple steps, our MyMusicCloud app makes it easy for you to fill your home with all your music right from your Smart TV.

We’ve partnered with Samsung Smart TVs (the most popular brand), so you can play your favorite songs, make party playlists, and check out the latest releases from your favorite singers using your TV remote.

Once you have a free MyMusicCloud account, it’s simple to get started. Here’s how in 5 steps.

STEP 1: Click the Smart Hub button on your TV’s remote control. If you don’t see the MyMusicCloud app on the front page of your Smart Hub, go to “Samsung Apps.” Press the down button to highlight the text box for searching, then use the voice controller to say the app name, or type it in with either a blue-tooth keyboard or your remote control.

STEP 2. Once you see the MyMusicCloud TV app, click it. You’ll see a TV activation URL (format: http://www.mymusiccloud.com/XXXXX). The activation code is embedded in the URL; it’s the letters and digits after the ” / ” in the URL.

STEP 3. Type this URL into a browser on your computer, cellphone or tablet. If you choose a cellphone, it sends you to the App Store or Google Play to download the MyMusicCloud app. Download it. (Note that this URL is only valid for 1 hour, so if you get up to make snacks, text or answer a phone call and an hour passes, you’ll need to close the app on your TV and reopen it to get a new URL.)

STEP 4. Sign in to your existing MyMusicCloud account with your usual login and password, or create a new account by clicking “Sign In” on that same screen where you entered the URL. It’s free to upload and store all your music, plus listen to 250 songs anytime you want. (For first-timers, learn how to import your music by reading this step-by-step post.)

STEP 5. Check out your TV screen: It should now show that your account’s active and your music will be right there, ready to browse and play.
