The Newest Music & Dance VideoGames for 2014

Know someone who can’t resist busting a move in your living room to “The Fox” by Ylvis? Or who loves to blast their music while playing Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien?

Get ready to blow their minds. Several fun new synchronized music and dance videogames were unveiled last week at this summer’s annual video game-a-palooza, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as “E3.” Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo and all the big videogame console producers were there showing off their upcoming fall and holiday titles. Some of them are even available for smartphones. Here’s what’s happening in the music and dance games category:

Dance Central SpotlightThe super-popular dance-along videogame series is releasing its newest installment this fall. Dance Central Spotlight includes 10 new songs, like Pharrell’s “Happy” and Kid Ink’s “Show Me,” along with eight choreographed dance routines for each. Each week, the console downloads more popular songs. Available September 2014 only on the Xbox One from Harmonix.

Just Dance 2015 & Just Dance Now – Much like Dance Central, Just Dance 2015 is the newest motion-sensor-driven videogame to combine popular music with choreography and competition. It includes popular features like the massive multiplayer World Dance Floor, video snippet creator Autodance and singalong Karaoke. New songs for October 2014 include “Happy” by Pharrell, “Problem” by Ariana Grande Ft. Iggy Azalea, “The Fox” by Ylvis and “I Love It” by Icona Pop ft. Charli XCX. Plus, Just Dance is going mobile with the Just Dance Now app. Smartphone users will also be able to download the app on their iPhone®, iPod touch® or Android™ device; visit Just DanceNow.com on any Internet-connected screen; and get ready to jam as soon as your phone syncs up. Available October 2014 on all platforms from Ubisoft.

Record Run – This rhythm-running app game combines fun sidewalk obstacles to run and jump over with songs from your own smartphone music library. Pick your rock-and-roll avatar and gather virtual vinyl records to unlock backstage passes and more prizes (fees apply). Available for free here for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android phones from Harmonix.
