Metalheads, rejoice. Despite what Justin Bieber and “American Idol” would have you believe, heavy metal is still very much alive, and is riding like one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse into a theater near you.
Worldwide metal gods Metallica have made a 3D cinematic feature film called “Through the Never,” showcasing all their octane-fueled hits in a weird mashup of urban fantasy and mesmerizing concert footage. If you’ve always wanted to see James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo perform “Enter Sandman” in concert but never have, “Through the Never” looks like the next best thing. Oh, and it’s in IMAX too.
We’ve got the trailer for you below, in which a fictional band crew member (DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live show in front of a sold-out arena. However, while the boys are blowing up the stage with shredded licks and pyrotechnics, the kid is encountering rioters, guys in gas masks on horseback and other freaky-deaky villains outside the stadium.
Sound fun? “Through the Never” hits IMAX theaters in 3D on September 27 and regular theaters everywhere on October 4. Until then, sleep with one eye open …
