It’s Showtime! Mariah Carey vs. Nicki Minaj

After months of rumors about cattiness and diva tantrums, the Mariah Carey/Nicki Minaj Show, better known as “American Idol,” is finally set to premiere at 8 p.m. EST Wednesday, January 16, on FOX. So who are you rooting for: Team Nicki or Team Mariah?

Both artists are at the top of their games: Mariah has won more than 30 Grammy and Billboard music awards combined for pop vocals, while Nicki claimed the third best-selling spot of the year on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for her album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.”

In 2009, they even collaborated on the song “Up Out My Face” for Mariah’s album Memoir of an Imperfect Angel. Hear it here in our MyMusicCloud music store and dissect the lyrics with our instant Lyrics button.

So what’s all this talk about jealousy and infighting?

“Have you ever had an argument with someone you work with?” Nicki asked reporters Tuesday at a press conference, where the two superstars sat separated by fellow judge Keith Urban.

Arguably, yes. And truthfully, “Idol” is infamous for its judging table drama.

Monday night on an ABC News interview special with Barbara Walters, Mimi further fanned the flames by revealing that she hired extra security after reports that Nicki made threats involving a gun after leaving the set.

“It felt like an unsafe work environment,” Mariah told Barbara.

It all makes for a fun and unpredictable musical showdown. So get ready for Wednesday night’s fireworks by making your own “Idol” watching party CDs.
